Toddler (2-3 years)

Our Toddler program is a peaceful, joyful first introduction to school!

Through purposeful work and class routines, children develop independence, concentration, and a sense of order as they choose activities focused on language, sensory awareness, fine motor skills, and self-care.

The children take responsibility for our classroom community as they prepare food, care for plants, and join in our daily whole-class meal. They explore art materials through process-oriented projects both in a small-group setting and independently throughout the day.

Social and emotional learning is a key component of our class; the children practice turn-taking and patience, and gain empathy for those around them as they learn and work alongside their classmates and teachers.

The outdoors is an important extension of our environment–we spend as much time as possible in our Tot Lot, which provides gross-motor practice, a chance to work in our garden, and opportunities to observe and interact with nature and our neighborhood. Time with rhymes and songs, musical instruments, books, and class conversations offer the opportunity to interact as a large group each day.

FAQs

Your child does not need to be potty trained to join our Toddler program. When he or she is ready, we will help your child through the process of transitioning from diapers to underwear.

After lunch, full-day children nap in their classroom.  Once they’re awake, they enjoy a snack and some time to play with their friends.

The outdoors is an extension of the learning environment! Depending on the weather and the enrichment specials schedule, each class spends time outdoors as frequently as possible, typically 30 minutes or more.
