Green Room, Assistant Teacher
2nd year at VGM
Hello! My name is Yasemin Metin, and I’m thrilled to be part of the VGM family. I joined VGM as a support teacher last year, assisting in all classrooms, and this year, I’m excited to be joining Ms. Alisha and Ms. Heather in the Green Room. I’m eager to continue learning from the team and hope to pursue Montessori training in the near future.
I was born and raised in Cologne, Germany, and I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Child Development from Vocational College in Leverkusen. Three years ago, my family and I moved to Libertyville due to my husband’s work.
One of the most rewarding aspects of working in education for me is witnessing the moment of realization in a child’s eyes—the “Aaah-effect”—when they grasp a new concept or skill. Dr. Maria Montessori’s teaching philosophy has deeply inspired me, both professionally and personally. Her approach resonated with me while raising my own daughters, especially her belief in guiding children through demonstration rather than instruction: “Do not tell them how to do it. Show them how to do it, and do not say a word. If you tell them, they will watch your lips move. If you show them, they will want to do it themselves.” This concept captivated me during my daughter’s early years.
I am a proud mother of two daughters, Meryem (12) and Hatice (10). Meryem attends Highland Middle School, and Hatice is a student at Butterfield Elementary School. Outside of school, I enjoy riding my bike, traveling, tackling DIY projects, and practicing Pilates.
