1st year with VGM

Hello, I’m Maggie Gelfand, and I couldn’t be more excited to join the VGM tot team of teachers! I graduated from Southern Illinois University with a bachelor’s degree in rehabilitation and have a diverse background. I’ve been a camp counselor, a therapist for people with autism, a direct support person and qualified intellectual disability professional in both home and day training settings. I’ve also continued my education by learning three levels of American Sign Language, and I can’t wait to incorporate this as a fun and interactive way to communicate with our little ones!

After having my first daughter, Autumn (7), I started helping with home childcare. Since my children, Alannah (5) and Elliot (3) arrived, I’ve been a stay-at-home mom, fostering a love of learning in our everyday routines. Being a mom has taught me patience and the importance of recognizing that each child is a unique individual who learns at their own pace. I’m especially excited for Elliot to begin his Montessori journey in the Green Room this year!

What I love most about Montessori education is how it nurtures a child’s natural curiosity and treats each child as a unique individual. The joy of seeing a child succeed and grow with every task they accomplish is what drives their development, and I’m thrilled to bring my experience to help your toddlers build new skills. I’m a firm believer in the power of play and laughter, and I hope to bring lots of energy and enthusiasm to create a joyful learning environment at VGM. I’m eager to help give your child the best learning experience possible!
